Hunan Anhua Brick Tea
湖南安化砖茶
### Hunan Anhua Brick Tea
Originating from Anhua, Hunan Province, China, this traditional brick tea is made from carefully selected tea leaves and processed using traditional tea-making techniques. The tea is compact in shape with a natural appearance. When brewed, it produces a rich, clear reddish-brown liquor with a mellow aroma and a smooth, full-bodied taste.
Anhua brick tea is well suited to repeated brewing and can be prepared using either a conventional steeping method or the traditional **boiling method**, allowing you to enjoy different flavors according to your preference.
### Brewing Instructions
**1. Warm the Teaware**
Rinse your teapot, gaiwan, or glass cup with hot water to warm the teaware.
**2. Prepare the Tea**
Use a tea knife to gently loosen and separate an appropriate amount of tea from the brick. Adjust the quantity according to the size of your teaware and your personal taste.
**3. Rinse the Tea**
Place the tea into your teaware and pour in boiling water. Rinse the tea briefly and discard the first infusion. This helps the compressed tea leaves loosen and open up.
**4. Brew the Tea**
Add hot water at approximately **90–100°C (194–212°F)**. Adjust the steeping time according to your preferred strength. For the first few infusions, a shorter steeping time is recommended. As the leaves gradually open, the steeping time can be increased.
The tea can be infused multiple times, with each infusion offering subtle changes in aroma and flavor.
### Traditional Boiling Method
Anhua brick tea is also well suited for **boiling**.
First, gently break the tea brick into smaller pieces and briefly rinse the tea with hot water. Place the tea into a tea kettle, glass teapot, or other suitable vessel and add an appropriate amount of water.
Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and continue simmering for several minutes. Adjust the boiling time according to your preferred taste.
For a stronger and fuller-bodied tea, you can simmer it for a little longer. For a lighter and smoother taste, reduce the simmering time.
As the tea boils, its aroma gradually develops, and the flavor of the tea becomes deeper and fuller. The same tea leaves can often be boiled again with additional water, depending on the condition of the leaves and your personal preference.
### Serving Suggestions
Anhua brick tea can be enjoyed hot or allowed to cool naturally before serving. Water temperature, tea quantity, steeping time, and boiling time can all influence the aroma and flavor of the finished tea. Feel free to adjust the preparation method according to your personal preference.
